Locations: Camp Ledgewood in Peninsula, OH and/or Camp Timberlane in Wakeman, OH

Dates of Service: May 30, 2025 - July 31, 2025 -We have one week, two week, or four week sessions (plus one day of training)

Compensation: $500.00 per week plus one week free camp for your girl per week worked

The Health Care Provider is the primary authority in maintaining a healthy camp population throughout the duration of each camp program. The Health Care Provider oversee the camp’s health and safety program in accordance with American Camping Association (ACA) standards, state health regulations, and organizational safety policies. This role includes administering routine and emergency care, distributing medications, and providing first aid to ensure that each camper and staff member receives quality healthcare throughout their camp experience.

Beyond direct care, the Health Care Provider upholds and implements detailed health procedures outlined in the camp’s healthcare policies, ensuring proper stewardship and wellness practices across all camp activities. This role also encompasses managing the health center, maintaining accurate and secure health records, and conducting camper health screenings. Working under the guidance of the Camp Director and in consultation with licensed physicians or an RN as needed, the Health Care Provider is instrumental in training staff on health protocols, emergency preparedness, and communicable disease control.

In addition, the Health Care Provider provides ongoing health education to campers and staff on topics such as hygiene, hydration, sun safety, and basic first aid, fostering a proactive approach to well-being. This role requires strong collaboration and communication with camp leadership to integrate health and safety seamlessly into all activities. Emotional support for campers, especially those new to the camp environment, is also a critical component, promoting a nurturing and responsive setting. Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, maintaining the readiness of all emergency health equipment, and contributing to end-of-season evaluations further reinforce the Health Care Provider’s role as a trusted leader in providing a safe, supportive, and enriching camp experience for all.

Requirements:

*Must have one of the following current qualifications or licensures for practice in the State of Ohio:

-Licensed Physician

-Registered Nurse (RN)

-Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

-EMT or Paramedic

  • Supervise health and cleanliness standards and recommend corrective actions
  • Monitors the health of campers and staff
  • Ensures each staff member and camper has an individual file which includes a health history and exam form, as required
  • Responsible for health screening for arriving campers and staff, as well as a system for health screening for out-of-camp trips
  • Conducts initial, during, and end-of-season inventory while storing equipment for safety
  • Establishes and follows appropriate medical routines, including record keeping in the daily medical log, disposal of medical waste, managing and safeguarding medications, utilizing approved standing orders, and following the American Camp Association standards
  • Designates hours for daily medications and health call
  • Organizes first aid kits for staff and units
  • Report all incidents/accidents to the Camp Director immediately.
  • Leads specific areas of staff training pertaining to camp health and safety and the use of universal precautions in infection control
  • Completes accident/incident reports and gives to the Camp Director
  • Prepares a summary and evaluation of the camp season, including inventories
  • Identifies and addresses opportunities with the Camp Director to enhance health and safety standards, recommending proactive solutions for improvement Responsible for completing and returning all records to the Camp Director
  • Maintains Girl Scouts of the United States of America, Girl Scouts of North East Ohio, and the American Camp Association standards at all times
  • Evaluate the current season and make recommendations for next season
  • As a member of Girl Scouts of the USA, ensures that diversity and pluralism is embraced and incorporated into the work
  • Responsible for organizing and tracking all trip first aid kits and medication
  • Some duties may be re-assigned, and other duties may be assigned as required
  • Responsible for the welfare, safety, and cleanliness of each individual and camper in unit. Follows and enforces all recommended health guidelines, including handwashing and cleaning/sanitizing as needed
