Experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Wildish Standard Paving Co., Portland, Oregon

Wildish Standard Paving Co. is a division of the Wildish group of companies headquartered in Eugene, Oregon, with a satellite location in Fairview, Oregon. We perform heavy civil projects both large and small, specializing in excavation, grading, and bridges, and serve clients throughout Oregon. This position is based in Fairview.

REPORTS TO : Equipment Manager and General Superintendent

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Diagnose and repair broken or malfunctioning mechanical, hydraulic and electrical components of equipment. Maintain a variety of wheeled, tracked and/or stationary construction-related equipment.

Physical/Mental Requirements:

  • Strength : Capable of routinely pushing and pulling hand-operated levers, depressing foot operated pedals and/or turning steering wheels for mechanical and hydraulic systems; routinely removing and installing components weighing up to 30 pounds; occasionally removing and installing components between 50 -70 pounds; occasionally swinging a 20-pound hammer or bar; driving a utility vehicle; wearing personal protective equipment.
  • Flexibility : Capable of walking on uneven, slick, loose and/or broken surfaces; climbing onto and off equipment; squatting, kneeling, reaching, bending at the waist and/or lying on back and sides while making repairs.
  • Dexterity : Capable of performing multiple tasks simultaneously (e.g., holding a component in place while turning a wrench, operating left and right hand controls and left and right foot pedals).
  • Respiratory Capacity : Capable of wearing a respiratory protection device while working in hazardous atmospheric conditions.
  • Endurance : Capable of performing assigned duties for eight or more hours at a time in hot, cold, daylight, nighttime, wet or dusty environments, and in noisy or jarring conditions.
  • Responsiveness: Capable of identifying through sight, sound, smell and/or touch, and reacting quickly to, hazardous situations.
  • Communication : Capable of verbally asking questions, responding to questions, relaying information, and responding to and alerting others of hazardous situations.
  • Mental : Capable of understanding and following instructions; solves problems presented by unexpected equipment conditions; recognizes and follows common safety practices.

Requirements :

  • Required experience with heavy equipment repair and maintenance
  • Safe driving record
  • CDL A
  • Self-motivated. Self-starter

  • Strong sense of urgency.
  • Able to take a firm command

  • Willing to work in a team environment and assist co-workers and/or supervisors with other duties as required
  • Adhere to required safety regulations at all times
  • Pass fitness for duty physical exam
  • Pass pre-employment drug/alcohol test and subject to random D/A testing
  • Willing to travel to job sites with the potential of overnight stays – could be 2+ times per month

Benefits of Joining Local No. 701:

Pay: Prevailing wage and benefits of heavy-duty mechanic per the 701 union.

Pay: $52.55 per hour plus fringe pay of $17.15 per hour.

Wildish is signatory to the International Union of Operating Engineers Local No. 701. This position requires being a 701 member or joining the union.
