SEO Specialist – Remote outside of Rochester, NY, Hybrid in Rochester, NY (Head Quarters in Rochester, NY)

SUMMARY

The SEO Specialist is responsible for leading the development and execution of impactful SEO strategies across the agency’s client portfolio. This role requires deep expertise in keyword research, SEO copywriting, and a strong understanding of how search engines rank and index content.

Qualified candidates bring experience in content strategy, listings and review management, technical SEO, website UX, and performance monitoring to drive visibility and ROI. This individual confidently leads client discussions, translates performance data into actionable insights, and is comfortable navigating the ever-evolving SEO landscape—ideally with agency experience.

KEY OUTCOMES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Outcome: Drive measurable performance through the strategic management, execution, and refinement of complex SEO campaigns.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead day-to-day management of SEO campaigns, including keyword research, competitive analysis, technical SEO, and on-page optimization.
  • Conduct comprehensive site audits and identify actionable recommendations for improving crawlability, accessibility, site speed, and information architecture.
  • Analyze SEO performance in alignment with KPIs and client objectives; deliver clear insights and recommendations via regular reporting.
  • Identify and prioritize opportunities for optimization across websites and business listings.
  • Serve as a point of contact for clients regarding SEO efforts and provide clear explanations of best practices and next steps.
  • Support QA and testing of implementations when needed.

Key Outcome: Shape data-informed SEO strategies that align with client goals, evolve with search engine trends, and uncover new growth opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with SEO, Analytics, Account Services, and Planning teams to uncover strategic opportunities across the SEO landscape.
  • Translate client goals and challenges into tailored SEO strategies and roadmaps.
  • Evaluate and recommend SEO platforms, tools, and partnerships that enhance execution and reporting capabilities.
  • Stay current on search engine algorithm updates, tool advancements, and industry innovations to ensure strategies remain competitive.

Key Outcome: Establish and uphold SEO best practices across departments to ensure seamless implementation and alignment with broader marketing goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and document agency-wide SEO best practices and playbooks with clarity and consistency.
  • Collaborate with developers to ensure technical SEO recommendations are implemented correctly and efficiently.
  • Partner with the Content Team to guide the creation of optimized content that supports both SEO and user experience goals.
  • Maintain or contribute to internal documentation of SEO processes and standards.
  • Participate in thought leadership initiatives, including blog posts, webinars, or industry speaking engagements.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED –

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Advertising, Communications, Business or equivalent work experience
  • 2+ years’ experience managing campaigns in the organic search ecosystem
  • Experience executing search engine optimization practices
  • Experience bringing strategic plans to execution
  • Proven track record in operating with a high-level of integrity, commitment, and enthusiasm to take on a challenging role with cross-functional commitments
  • Google Analytics certification

PREFERRED –

  • Google Adwords certification
  • Agency experience

COMPENSATION

Butler/Till is committed to providing pay transparency of our compensation philosophy and ensuring equitable pay practices for our employee owners. The compensation range for this position is $44,000- $62,000 and represents the annual salary range in Rochester, NY. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience.

This is just one component of Butler/Till’s total compensation package for employee owners. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including ESOP (employee stock ownership plan), an annual bonus, in addition to a full benefits package, and paid time off benefits, including 100% paid parental leave. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
