Responsibilities
We are looking for an experienced Tech Designer/Systems Designer to champion the fast prototyping of gameplay systems. This role involves designing and implementing player movement, traversal, combat systems, scripting events, and providing backend system support. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, extensive experience with Unreal Engine, and a proven ability to prototype and iterate quickly based on project needs. What You'll Be Doing:
• Collaborate closely with level designers and other team members to develop and prototype gameplay systems;
• Design and implement player gameplay and combat mechanics;
• Create and manage scripted events and support scripting for various gameplay scenarios;
• Provide backend system support to ensure smooth integration and functionality of gameplay systems;
• Quickly produce and iterate prototypes based on project needs and feedback;
• Optimize and debug gameplay systems to ensure a seamless player experience;
• Stay updated with industry trends and advancements in game design and technology.
Qualifications
We Expect You To Have:
• Bachelor degree and above, preferably in computer science or related field;
• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in tech and systems design;
• Extensive experience using Unreal Engine for game development;
• Proven track record of quickly producing and iterating on gameplay prototypes;
• Strong understanding of player movement, traversal, and combat mechanics;
• Proficiency in scripting languages and backend system integration;
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and debug complex systems;
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment;
• Passion for gaming and a deep understanding of what makes gameplay fun and engaging.
Even Better If You Have:
• Experience working on AAA game titles;
• Experience working on 3rd person ARPG style games;
• Deep understanding of ARPG gameplay mechanics, including character progression, skill trees, loot systems, and combat mechanics;
• Proficiency in using Unreal Engine's Blueprints for rapid prototyping and scripting of gameplay systems.
Additional Information
• This is an onsite hybrid role based in Los Angeles
• Current working hours: Monday – Friday, 11am – 8pm Pacific Time (including one-hour break);
• Salary depending on experience.
