Position: Financial Controller

Location: Irvine, CA

Salary Range: $125,000 – $140,000 annually (commensurate with experience)

Includes performance-based bonus potential

We’re looking for a detail-oriented, hands-on Financial Controller to lead accounting operations and financial reporting. This individual will serve as a key partner to the leadership team, providing strategic financial insights while ensuring accuracy and efficiency across all finance functions.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Analysis

• Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
• Lead annual budget development and maintain rolling forecasts
• Provide clear financial performance reports and executive summaries
• Manage balance sheet and P&L reporting

Accounting Operations & Compliance

• Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, and payroll
• Lead month-end and year-end close processes
• Ensure accurate invoice coding and financial data integrity
• Manage multistate sales tax filings and nexus tracking
• Reconcile bank accounts and maintain detailed financial records
• Utilize tools like TaxJar or Avalara for tax compliance

Ecommerce, Fulfillment & DTC Operations

• Support financial operations for ecommerce platforms such as Shopify
• Reconcile ecommerce revenue, shipping expenses, and payment processor fees
• Manage accounting workflows related to DTC shipping and 3PL coordination
• Monitor fulfillment center invoicing, inventory costs, and logistics charges

Process Improvement & Collaboration

• Identify and implement improvements to accounting processes and systems
• Investigate chargebacks and customer deductions
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support vendor relationships
• Lead weekly cash flow, AR, and AP update meetings with leadership

Audit & External Support

• Provide financial documentation to external accountants
• Support audit preparation and ongoing compliance efforts

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience in accounting/finance, preferably within a consumer products or lifestyle brand
• Proficient in Power BI or similar tools for data visualization and analysis
• Experience with ecommerce finance workflows and platforms like Shopify
• Familiarity with DTC logistics, 3PL partners, and fulfillment operations
• Hands-on experience with tax software such as TaxJar or Avalara
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (preferred)
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, Cin7)
• Excellent attention to detail, organization, and time management
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments
