ROAD SERVICE TECHNICIAN

Department: Fleet & Maintenance

Location: Santa Fe Springs Shop

Classification: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Position Summary

Ecology Auto Parts Inc. is seeking a skilled and reliable Road Service Technician to join our team. This role requires a Class-A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and involves operating a medium-sized service truck to provide roadside maintenance and repair services for our fleet of heavy-duty diesel vehicles and equipment. The Road Service Technician will perform emergency repairs, preventive maintenance, and diagnostic tasks in the field, ensuring minimal downtime for our vehicles and equipment. This position operates on a schedule of Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, you must be able to execute each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.

  • Perform emergency roadside repairs and assigned preventive maintenance services.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues on heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.
  • Operate a medium-sized service truck equipped with tools, parts, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Respond to service calls promptly and provide effective, timely resolutions to breakdowns in the field.
  • Perform safety inspections and ensure all repairs meet regulatory standards.
  • Utilize vehicle computer diagnostic systems to interpret failure modes and initiate repairs.
  • Prepare accurate estimates for time, materials, and labor costs for repairs.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety standards within the service truck and while on job sites.
  • Document completed repairs, parts used, and service times using fleet maintenance software.
  • Assist in shop-based repairs or projects as needed.

Requirements

Qualifications/Knowledge/Critical Skills

  • Experience: Three (3) years of relevant work experience in diesel mechanics or field service.
  • License: Valid Class-A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Certification or diploma in automotive or diesel technology is preferred.
  • Proven experience in diagnosing and repairing heavy-duty diesel vehicles and equipment.
  • Strong understanding of safety protocols, compliance standards, and roadside repair procedures.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment for troubleshooting.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently in remote and challenging environments.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check, including employment history and motor vehicle record review.
  • Required to exert physical effort in handling tools, parts, and equipment during repairs.
  • Ability to lift 50-75 pounds, push, pull, and bend frequently during work.
  • Exposure to outdoor elements such as dirt, odors, noise, and varying weather conditions.
  • Requires motor coordination with finger dexterity for using tools, diagnostic equipment, and keyboarding.

Compensation

The Road Service Technician position offers an appealing compensation package, with a competitive hourly range of $25.00 to $40.00 per hour (DOE).
