Job Title: Senior Project Manager

Location: Decatur, AL

Job Summary

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for the overall planning, direction, management, coordination, implementation, execution, control, and completion of specific large-scale, multifaceted projects. This role ensures projects are delivered according to specifications, within budget, and on schedule—from initiation through completion—while maintaining a high level of quality and managing performance risk within defined constraints (e.g., time, budget, resources, quality, and materials).

As the single point of contact for assigned projects, the Senior Project Manager leads Joint Project Teams (JPTs), applies professional project management principles and techniques, and assumes full leadership in safely managing all aspects of the project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and direct cross-functional project teams to achieve project objectives.
  • Develop and control project schedules, budgets, and performance metrics.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, regulatory, and organizational standards.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between stakeholders, sponsors, and project teams.
  • Oversee project execution from initiation to closeout, ensuring timely and successful delivery.
  • Manage large project budgets exceeding $25 million or a portfolio of active projects with a combined value over $75 million .
  • Apply advanced project management methodologies to optimize outcomes and stakeholder satisfaction.

Qualifications

Education

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Management, Technical Field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or related work experience.
  • Preferred: Master’s degree in a related discipline.

Certifications

  • Required: Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI) within one year of appointment (see SPP-34.018 for exceptions/extensions).
  • Preferred: Additional professional licensure/certification in field of study (e.g., PE, CPA, CFP, etc.) demonstrating commitment to excellence.

Experience

  • Proven track record managing complex, high-value projects or project portfolios.
  • Extensive experience leading multidisciplinary teams and delivering projects on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
  • Demonstrated expertise in risk management, stakeholder communication, and performance reporting.
