The Facilities Director is responsible for the beautification, safety, structural integrity, sustainability, and regulatory compliance of all Buck’s Rock Camp buildings, grounds, and equipment. This role oversees the full scope of the camp’s facilities operations, including budget development and management, routine and preventative maintenance, emergency response, risk management, contractor oversight, departmental supervision, and the execution of capital improvements and major projects. At its core, the Facilities Director safeguards the wellbeing of nearly 500 campers and staff each summer by ensuring safe, efficient, and beautiful facilities. The Facilities Director reports to the President and directly supervises the year-round and seasonal maintenance teams.

Key Responsibilities Facilities Management
  • Lead development and management of the annual facilities and maintenance budget.
  • Oversee and complete all routine, preventative, and responsive maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure optimal function of essential systems including water, septic, waste, energy, fire safety, HVAC, mechanical equipment, and road/pathway infrastructure.
  • Conduct regular internal, documented inspections of buildings, grounds, utilities, and equipment.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and up-to-date facilities documentation, including equipment manuals and warranties, written procedures, and vendor records.
  • Essential Summer and Winter preparations for safeguarding camp against seasonal changes and ensuring year-round functionality including the completion of seasonal opening and closing of buildings, pool, water tower, etc.
  • Vehicle management to ensure vehicles are well-maintained and ready for use.
  • Vendor management for all scheduled and periodic maintenance, including but not limited to rubbish removal, contractors, septic, and fuel deliveries.
  • Oversee capital projects, renovations, and major infrastructure upgrades from concept to completion, including soliciting bids and negotiating contracts.
  • Enhance the sustainability, environmental responsibility, and energy efficiency of campus systems by recommending and implementing improvements that reduce waste, increase resiliency, and support long-term resource management
  • Maintain a beautiful and safe landscape through regular inspections and upkeep, including tasks such as blowing leaves and removing dead or hazardous trees.
  • Manage pest prevention and control across all buildings and grounds.

Compliance, Safety & Risk Management
  • Ensure all buildings and grounds meet or exceed health, safety, environmental, and fire code regulations.
  • Serve as the camp’s primary liaison for annual inspections alongside the Director of Operations (ACA, Health Department, Fire Department, Department of Early Childhood Development, etc).
  • Maintain thorough records and documentation for compliance and accreditation standards.
  • Lead emergency response efforts related to system failures, weather events, and urgent safety concerns.
Leadership & Team Management
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate year-round maintenance staff and seasonal maintenance team.
  • Establish clear communication systems for staff tasks, workflows, and expectations.
  • Model a leadership style that reflects Buck’s Rock’s collaborative, respectful, and community-centered culture.
  • Willingness to pursue ongoing professional development, and encourage maintenance staff to take advantage of these continued learning opportunities.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • 100% completion of annual inspections with no major violations.
  • 100% on-time completion of routine maintenance.
  • Capital projects completed on time and within budget (or with approved variance).
  • Zero preventable safety incidents resulting from facilities negligence.
  • Emergency response time to critical maintenance issues meets or exceeds internal standards.
  • Documented inspections of all major systems quarterly.
  • Reduction in unplanned system failures year-over-year.
  • Quarterly check-ins and annual evaluations completed for all direct reports.
  • High staff retention and satisfaction on the maintenance team.
  • Adherence to annual facilities budget with responsible forecasting and adjustments.
  • Cost savings identified or achieved through improved systems, vendor negotiations, or sustainability initiatives.

Qualifications Required
  • Hands-on and resourceful problem solver with strong judgment around when tasks require outsourcing.
  • Demonstrated project management skills with experience managing budgets, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Strong ability to identify and prioritize critical maintenance needs.
  • Strong administrative skills with proficiency in Google Sheets/Excel, email, Google Calendar, and payables.
  • Foundational knowledge of plumbing, electrical, septic, fire code, motor mechanics, and seasonal preparation.
  • Strong communication skills: clear, kind, direct, and collaborative.
  • Leadership experience managing staff and establishing systems.
Preferred
  • OSHA training or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Experience with permitting, inspections, or compliance documentation.
  • Project management training or certification or willingness to obtain certification or professional development.
  • Strong local vendor and contractor relationships.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, including sensory awareness of irregularities (sound, smell, function, appearance).

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range: $80,000–$95,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Status: Full-time, exempt

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Role requires on-site presence at Buck’s Rock Camp throughout the year.
  • Frequently involves walking the campus, including uneven terrain, wooded areas, and multi-building inspections.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, operate basic tools, and access tight or elevated spaces when necessary.
  • Requires working both indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Shorter hours in the off season, while summer months require increased availability, including occasional evenings, overnights, and weekends.
  • Must be comfortable engaging with a community of campers, staff, artists, families, and vendors with kindness and professionalism.
  • Requires extended periods of standing, walking, observing, and hands-on problem solving.
