Job Title - Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Cellular Therapy Program Manager (RN/NP) - Outpatient Oncology – Mount Sinai Hospital - Full Time - Day

The program manager is responsible for coordination, and throughput of nursing processes for patients undergoing transplant or cellular therapy in the outpatient setting. The program manager is responsible for collaboration with appropriate specialty and site-based departments assisting with the care of transplant patients. The program manager will provide operational leadership to transplant clinical coordinators within the ambulatory settings.  

The program manager supervises and directs a designated group of nurse clinical coordinators within the Bone Marrow Transplant and Multiple Myeloma Programs. The program manager supervises the optimization of the clinical coordinator's role and nursing practice within the transplant service line for the delivery of high-quality health care to patients while promoting a culture of patient-centered care that emphasizes service and compassion. Serves as a liaison to nursing, medicine, department chairs/chiefs, care management, administration, and other department leadership. Ensures the transplant program and nursing practice meet compliance with regulatory agencies. 

Responsibilities

Clinical Practice
1.    Implements coordination of care for patients identified as candidates for transplant or cellular therapy treatment. 

2.    Initiates standard workflow processes and process improvement related to patient coordination or care.
3.    Educates and counsels in the areas of health promotion, maintenance, disease prevention, and management of acute/chronic illnesses. 
4.    Reviews and performs patient service recovery 
5.    Consults with physician and nursing leadership according to established standards, policies, procedures, and protocols.
6.    Initiates referrals to specialty services and fosters continuity of care.
7.    Leads and attends team meetings to enhance an interdisciplinary approach to care delivery.
8.    Performs a patient record review with transplant coordinators and providers to ensure accurate and timely documentation. 
9.    Maintains current expertise in area of practice.

Administrative
1.    Collaborates with the Director of Nursing (DON) and Chair or Service Chief of the respective clinical department in the recruitment, retention, and human resource management of RNs assigned to respective service.
2.    Evaluates RN staff performance, mentors, coaches, counsels and disciplines staff up to and including termination. 
3.    Manages, guides and monitors RN and interdisciplinary team members related to scheduling, assignments, and coordination of services. 
4.    Prepares, implements and monitors budgets, including capital equipment allocation, budget variances, management of OT and vacancies according to MSHS financial goals.
5.    Maintains control of established positions and manages the recruitment and retention of qualified staff.
6.    Conducts regular staff meetings to ensure communication with staff about progress, changes and compliance with all hospital policies and procedures.
7.    Facilitates the on-boarding and orientation as well as ongoing professional development of nurse practitioners.
8.    Coordinates clinical activities of RNs to accomplish established safety and quality measures. 
9.    Provides leadership and develops effective team building. 
10.  Sets departmental goals in collaboration with division chief and other key personnel
11.  Demonstrates knowledge of and commitment to service excellence; role models Mount Sinai Service Standards.
12.  Participates in relevant hospital-wide committees.
13.  Acts as a liaison between inpatient and outpatient areas to assure continuity of care.
14.  Engages with physicians, division chief, nursing, and department administrators to ensure that clinical practice, systems are supportive of clinical care. 
15.  Promotes utilization of RNs to optimize their scope of clinical practice.

Supports and role models the mission, philosophy, goals and objectives of the Department of Nursing, the institution of practice and the MSHS.
2.    Promotes individual professional growth and development in clinical and managerial role.
3.    Participates in the development and monitoring of patient outcomes per established practice protocols for purposes of quality and performance improvement.
4.    Serves as a clinical role model and resource to the nursing and clinical staff.
5.    Serves as a professional resource to other members of the health care team.
6.    Uses evidence-based health care literature to advise and support appropriate practice changes within the designated service.
7.    Participates in Service Line Quality and Performance Improvement meetings.
8.    Participates in departmental related meetings and committees.
9.    Demonstrates professional involvement by:    
A.    Attending and participating in workshops, seminars, and courses as presenter or author.
B.    Keeping abreast of current literature and trends in practice.
C.    Participating in related professional organizations.
10.  Considers ethical issues in professional nursing practice.
11.  Treats co-workers, patients and families with dignity and respect.
12.  Maintains attendance and punctuality record in accordance with departmental standards.
13.  Adheres to dress code in accordance with departmental policy.

Qualifications
  • Master?s degree in nursing preferred
  • 3+ years minimum of relevant clinical practice in bone marrow transplant and cellular therapy.
  • Previous Nursing leadership and management experience preferred.
  • Possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Current license and registration as a Nurse Practitioner OR Professional Registered Nurse in NY State
  • Certification in Oncology preferred

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $127044 - $190565 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
