About Us

Shelter Institute is a family-run company that's been building and teaching timber framing for over 50 years. We combine startup culture with corporate benefits, creating an environment where creativity thrives. We go to amazing places, do incredible things, and need someone who's ready for adventure.

Want to see who we are? Check out "Mortise & Tenon: Learning to Timber Frame In Five Days" to get a feel for our company culture and mission.

The Role

We're seeking a creative, self-starting Videographer and Editor to join our growing video production team. You'll have significant creative freedom while capturing the craftsmanship of timber framing for our social media and marketing efforts. Working from our Shelter campus, you'll split time between editing in the office and capturing footage in our workshop and store. You'll collaborate with our Director of Video Production and on-site Director of Marketing while having the initiative to seek out compelling content opportunities. You will be documenting our in-person classes and our timber frame raisings. While technical skills are important, we value a friendly attitude coupled with a strong ability to work autonomously. If you're motivated to learn and grow while staying busy we want to talk with you!

What You'll Do
  • Film and edit compelling short-form content for social media and paid advertising
  • Produce, film, and edit a bi-weekly vlog series showcasing Shelter Institute
  • Document on-site timber frame builds, in-person classes, and tours
  • Assist with editing projects as needed
  • Organize and maintain company camera equipment

What We Offer
  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • Health insurance and 401k retirement plan
  • PTO & sick days
  • Paid travel opportunities (6-10 weeks annually)
  • Creative freedom and ownership of projects
  • Growth opportunities in a rapidly expanding company

What You'll Need
  • Portfolio demonstrating quality videography and editing work
  • Experience with Adobe Premiere & Cloud Suite (or willingness to learn)
  • Understanding of social media content strategies, especially Instagram reels
  • Self-motivation, initiative, and flexibility
  • Familiarity with mirrorless cameras and video equipment
  • Physical capability to handle equipment (up to 50 lbs) and work long days on timber frame job sites or online course shoots
  • Ability to commute to our Woolwich, ME campus daily
  • Availability to travel 6-10 weeks annually for timber frame raisings

Bonus Points If You Have
  • Experience with product/event photography
  • Experience with Sony mirrorless ecosystem (FX3, A7iv, etc.)
  • DJI drone operating skills
  • Basic 3-point lighting setup knowledge
  • Interest in woodworking
  • A healthy consumption of YouTube and social media content (a little brain rot isn't a bad thing for this role!)
Our Work

Visit our Instagram and YouTube to see examples of the content you'll be creating, including our build series, vlogs, and instructional videos.

Are you ready to get moving and capture the art of timber framing? Apply today and join our creative team!
