We are working with our client, Auburn Manufacturing, an industry leader in the manufacturing of advanced textiles for extreme-heat environments. With an exciting new launch into aerospace applications, AMI is seeking a full-time Textile Engineer to join their team in Auburn, Maine.

The Textile Engineer , reporting to the CEO, will coordinate research and development activities for the new product development processes including devising new test methods for high-heat resistant textile products, provide formulation input and conducts scaled up production level trials. This position will collaborate with Production, Business Development, Purchasing, Quality and Safety.

Requirements of the Textile Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or equivalent is required
  • 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing/textile coating environment or related field testing strength/weight of materials
  • Familiarity with defense-related specifications regarding testing is preferred
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply basic chemical principles and scientific methods
  • Experience with aerospace applications and ASPS testing helpful
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Computer proficiency, including spreadsheets and email programs
  • Knowledge and ability to apply basic mathematical and statistical principles
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Responsibilities of the Textile Engineer:

  • Designs development activities and testing/trials for new product inquiries and material design process changes
  • Prepares samples and performs testing for quality monitoring to ensure requirements and/or contractual requirements are met
  • Provides quality control support and performs testing related to complaints and product quality assurance issues as requested
  • Assists with all new product development and production
  • Performs lab testing and trials as well as supporting scaled up production level trials as directed
  • Maintains laboratory equipment ensuring routine maintenance and documentation is performed.
  • Verifies, maintains and completes documents for incoming Chemical Certificates of Compliance, supplier specification and ISO 9000 requirements
  • Participates in annual internal/external ISO audits and creates SOP’s for test protocols ensuring technical compliance with ISO QP2-04 for testing/test equipment
  • Works with process engineering to set production operating standards in order to meet product specifications
  • Mixes formula components for production that cannot be easily measured or weighed
  • Verifies materials needed for work order and inspect materials for damage, spoilage or other defects
  • Participates in root cause analysis and process improvement projects
  • Conducts American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Proficiency testing of AMI Laboratory personnel and equipment
