The Standardized Patient & Simulation Specialist position provides support for various functions within the Standardized Patient Program and Simulation Lab and the Pre-Clinical Medicine department. 
  • This position is nonexempt.
  • This position reports to the Director of the Standardized Patient Program.
  • Starting salary is $18.13/hour ($37,717 annual) depending on experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the recruitment, orientation, training, and evaluation of standardized patients.
  • Assist in monitoring standardized patient performances and giving feedback for improvement. This includes all aspects of case portrayal such as delivering details, affect, and physical simulation. This involves observing videos of standardized patients for quality assurance purposes to ensure standardization and implement retraining.
  • Assist in overseeing attendance and the preparation and monitoring of inventory needed for clinical education activities involving standardized patients.
  • Administration and support of standardized payment, including data entry and timely submission of documents.
  • Arrange space, guest accommodation, tours, food and other applicable activities for the program.
  • Assist in clinical room preparation- ordering supplies, restocking rooms, and room set up.
  • Assist in the coordination and communication of standardized patient schedules and reminders.
  • Report standardized patient or student issues to the Director of the Standardized Patient Program and/or appropriate Course Director and/or the Chair of Clinical Medicine.
  • Communicate effectively and handle challenging or confidential matters with the utmost professionalism. Ability to work professionally with a varied number of faculty and standardized patient trainees.
  • Direct students to the right equipment and materials to supplement their education.
  • Develop and maintain competence in operation and upkeep including high-fidelity manikin controls and maintenance.
  • Attend manikin training sessions as scheduled.
  • Assist with simulation sessions to ensure a quality experience for all participants.
  • Be primary to ordering supplies for SIM and entering purchase requests for payment of outside session assistants.
  • Assists with pickup and storage of donated supplies from local clinics/hospitals.
  • Look for opportunities to assist with current and upcoming events/sessions, proactively.
  • Support student practice opportunities.
  • Assist in student training for procedures and skills within the scope of training.
  • Provide administrative support, tasks include, but are not limited to; answering telephones, serving as the initial point of contact for assigned departments, working with the supervisor to maintain departmental budgets to ensure expenditures are within budget before expense, processing purchase requisitions and reimbursements for assigned departments and assist other departments as requested, maintain departmental office supplies inventory and order supplies as needed to ensure adequate supply, and distribute mail.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Self-starter, capable of working independently with minimal supervision, takes initiative to stay busy
  • Regular, on-time attendance.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma/ GED required and Six (6) months previous related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferences:
  • CPR certification
  • Completion of accredited medical assisting school
  • Medical field experience
  • Experience with Simulation Education and/or Manikins

  • This job is conducted in an office work environment.
  • Approximately 75% of this position’s duties require the use of a computer.
  • Must be able to exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
Work Schedule:
  • Typically, Monday through Friday, 8 am-5 pm
  • May occasionally require evenings and weekends.
