Job Title: Staff Electrical Engineer
Location: Boston, MA
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Electrical Engineer to lead the development of electrical hardware for advanced robotic medical devices. This role will involve hands-on design work as well as collaboration with embedded systems and mechanical engineering teams to solve complex, real-world engineering problems. You will also help shape the overall architecture and direction of the electrical system.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design electronic hardware for complex robotic systems
- Collaborate with mechanical engineers on PCBA physical layout
- Support embedded team with processing and sensing requirements
- Select components, perform schematic capture, and board layout using Altium
- Develop and maintain assembly and test equipment
- Perform board-level reliability assessments and diagnostics
- Conduct testing and create documentation for hardware systems
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to product and technology teams
- Define, manage, and track project goals, timelines, and deliverables
- Recommend and implement design improvements as needed
- Set strategic direction for electrical system development
- Mentor junior engineers and lead technical teams toward successful project execution
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred)
- 8+ years of experience in electrical/electronics hardware design
- Experience in designing medical devices , especially to IEC 60601 standards
- Proficiency in Altium Designer and PLM tools
- Hands-on experience with flex circuits , PCB technologies, and board layout
- Strong understanding of interfaces such as SPI, I2C, USB, MIPI, and Ethernet
- Experience with inductive sensing , high-speed sampling, switching power supplies, BLDC motors , and analog/digital conversion
- Knowledge of EMC, EMI, and ESD mitigation techniques
- Experience in designing for test (DFT) and developing test fixtures for manufacturing
