Senior Retirement Benefits Specialist
This position supports a well-established Houston-based publicly traded maritime company. The team is currently focused on elevating employee communications and strengthening its bench in retirement benefits. The role is hybrid with flexibility and reports to the Director of Benefits.
• Employment Type: Direct Hire
• Compensation: $90,000 – $110,000 annually, depending on experience and internal equity
• Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k) with 3% match, 5% profit sharing, Vacation & Sick Leave, 9 Paid Holidays
• Location: Hybrid – 2 days remote & 3 days onsite (The Heights Area).
Qualifications
• 5+ years of experience in employee benefits, with strong focus on 401(k) – required
• Proficiency in 401(k) administration including compliance testing, true-ups, and plan changes – required
• General exposure to health & welfare benefits – preferred
• Familiarity with defined benefit/pension plans – preferred but not required
• Excellent communication, data analysis, and project management skills – required
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or equivalent experience – preferred
• Advanced Excel skills – preferred
Responsibilities
• Own 401(k) administration including compliance testing, contribution cycles, and documentation
• Serve as a key liaison for vendor relationships, legal plan updates, and employee inquiries
• Take initiative on benefits-related projects, especially employee communication strategies
• Support internal audits, data integrity, and retirement compliance efforts
• Partner with legal and HR to evaluate legislative and regulatory changes
• Collaborate with team members on health & welfare matters as needed
• Act as a subject matter expert and backup to the broader benefits team
