Job Description

Position Title: Accountant II

Location: Bethesda, MD (On-site)

Assignment Type: Permanent Hire

Compensation: $70,000 – $115,000 annually (includes a 3% non–performance-based bonus)

Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Accountant II to support a stable, long-tenured accounting team within a privately held real estate organization. This role is responsible for full-cycle property accounting, financial reporting, and tenant account management across a diverse portfolio. The ideal candidate brings strong technical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a track record of longevity in previous roles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform month-end close activities, including preparation of property operating statements, journal entries, and monthly accruals.
  • Prepare account reconciliations and supporting schedules.
  • Research and resolve inquiries from senior management during monthly and quarterly reporting cycles.
  • Prepare tax and operating expense recovery billings.
  • Abstract lease documents and maintain accurate financial data within the accounting system.
  • Review and post monthly fixed charges and issue courtesy statements.
  • Apply cash to tenant accounts and communicate with tenants regarding billing or account questions.
  • Collaborate with property management, collections, and other internal teams to resolve tenant-related inquiries.
  • Assist with training and onboarding of team members.
  • Participate in special projects, process improvements, and additional accounting assignments as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience; real estate or property management experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with Yardi or similar property management accounting software.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated tenure and reliability in past roles.
  • CPA certification is a plus.
