Senior Estimator (Commercial Construction)

Location: New York, NY

Compensation: $150,000 to $220,000 base plus discretionary bonus

Overview

A leading New York based commercial construction firm is seeking a Senior Estimator to act as the number two to the Chief Estimator. This role supports early stage budgeting, preconstruction strategy, and cost control across multiple commercial projects.

You will be involved from concept through preconstruction, working closely with internal teams, clients, and trade partners.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for commercial construction projects
• Review plans, drawings, and specifications for completeness and accuracy
• Perform quantity takeoffs and identify scope gaps or omissions
• Solicit and analyze subcontractor bids across all trades
• Manage bid leveling, scope review, and subcontractor clarifications
• Support projects totaling $100M to $150M annually
• Maintain estimating standards, procedures, and cost databases
• Attend client meetings and support pricing discussions
• Assist with change order pricing and value engineering
• Track estimating trends, cost data, and code updates
• Compare estimated costs to actuals and recommend improvements

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in construction, engineering, architecture, or related field
• 7 or more years of estimating experience with a commercial general contractor
• Strong experience across ground up and interior commercial projects
• Advanced Excel and estimating software proficiency
• Strong organizational, communication, and analytical skills
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
