Backend Software Engineer (Hybrid – New York, NY)

Location: Hybrid role, 2–3 days onsite in New York, NY 11217

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Backend Software Engineer to lead critical infrastructure and API development efforts that power our healthcare platform. This role is ideal for a senior engineer with 10+ years of backend development experience and a proven ability to design, build, and deploy production-grade backend systems end-to-end. You will work in an environment with significant ambiguity, requiring strong architectural judgment and the ability to translate complex priorities into clear, scalable technical solutions. Experience with or interest in HIPAA-compliant systems and healthcare data is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services, APIs, and data pipelines supporting patient- and therapist-facing applications.
• Develop and operate cloud infrastructure using Google Cloud Platform (GCP) .
• Ensure HIPAA compliance across backend systems, including secure PHI handling, audit logging, and access controls.
• Create well-structured, well-documented REST APIs with strong validation, error handling, and observability.
• Implement logging, monitoring, and alerting to maintain system reliability and enable rapid issue resolution.
• Collaborate closely with Frontend, Product, and Clinical teams to define requirements and deliver end-to-end solutions.

Required Experience & Skills

• 10+ years of professional backend software development experience.
• Proven experience designing and delivering backend services from concept through production.
• Strong API design and system architecture skills.
• Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous environments and balance competing priorities.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
