Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

The Scientist/Senior Scientist will lead and develop strategies to best execute exploratory research and development initiatives in the emulsifiers category, supporting strategic business goals across food, personal care, pet food, and other application areas. This individual will be a recognized subject matter expert in emulsifier technologies and will conduct advanced research projects independently or collaboratively with internal and external partners. The role requires strategic agility, strong technical acumen, leadership in cross-functional settings, and the ability to mentor others while delivering scientific innovations and actionable business outcomes. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Independently manage and execute exploratory research projects from concept to completion, including design, execution, data analysis, reporting, and communication of results. 
  • Provide leadership in cross-functional project teams including Sales, Marketing, Operations, Procurement, and external stakeholders. 
  • Design and perform laboratory experiments related to food applications, emulsifier functionality, and ingredient interactions. 
  • Serve as a technical advisor and subject matter expert in emulsifiers and related lipid chemistries, contributing to R&D initiatives across product lines. 
  • Support business functions (e.g., Sales, Marketing, Operations) with technical insights, data, and presentations. 
  • Represent the company in external collaborations with universities, research institutions, and industry consultants. 
  • Develop and deliver technical presentations at conferences, trade shows, and internal meetings. 
  • Provide coaching and technical training to junior scientists and R&D team members. 
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant work environment in accordance with all safety protocols. 
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory developments in emulsifier science. 
  • Author technical reports, patents, and scientific publications as appropriate. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned in alignment with business goals. 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPIRIENCE: 

  • Bachelor's degree (M.S. and Ph.D. preferred) in food science, chemistry, chemical engineering, or related discipline with significant industrial experience in emulsifier applications. 
  • Minimum 2 - 10 years of relevant R&D or industrial experience in emulsifiers or related fields. 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multiple complex projects independently. 
  • Strong leadership and cross-functional collaboration skills. 
  • Proven ability to present scientific findings clearly and persuasively to both technical and non-technical audiences. 
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Proficient in laboratory research methods, scientific software, and Microsoft Office Suite. 

Knowledge and Abilities Required 

  • Recognized expertise in lipid/emulsifier chemistry, technologies and applications across food and related industries. 
  • Ability to manage projects, coordinate internal resources, and ensure successful technical implementations 
  • Ability to align technical solutions with customer objectives and identify opportunities for growth and improvement. 
  • Proficient in laboratory research methods, scientific software, and Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Working knowledge of laboratory safety, regulatory standards, and industrial hygiene practices. 
  • Ability to influence and lead cross-functional teams to achieve R&D objectives. 
  • High level of initiative, self-motivation, and accountability. 
  • Strategic thinking, rather than being tactical, with a collaborative, team-oriented mindset. 
  • Ability to mentor and develop scientific talent within the organization. 

Pay Range: $115,000.00 - $125,000.00 - Depending on Experience
