Job Description

We are looking to hire a Residential Mortgage Underwriter to be based in Miami, FL

Primary duties and responsibilities

Conduct credit underwriting and issue recommendations on credit proposals, ensuring adherence to the Bank’s Credit Policy and credit risk assessments.
Actively ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory and operational standards.
Collaborate with the Operations Manager to address application discrepancies or missing information.
Evaluate tax returns and other financial documents to pre-screen the feasibility of credit requests.
Analyze borrower income, business operations, and financial status to assess their ability to repay loans.
Compile credit underwriting reports, detailing risk mitigation, repayment sources, and sensitivity analysis.
Review credit reports, OFAC checks, and background verifications to ensure consistency with submitted information.
Request additional details and address issues related to borrowers’ financial standing and credit risks.
Engage in special projects concerning the bank’s residential loan portfolio.
Maintain thorough knowledge of regulatory requirements, policies, and compliance standards, including BSA/AML, CDD, and EDD guidelines.
Complete all mandatory training and ensure adherence to relevant laws, policies, and regulations.

Requirements:

Bilingual: English/Portuguese or English/Spanish highly preferred
5+ years of experience in residential underwriting
Experience with Non-QM, Foreign Nationals,
Knowledge on Encompass or Calyx preferred
Bachelor degree in Business Admisnitration, Finance, Accounting, Economics or related (or relevant work experience)
