Job Overview

The School Principal serves as the educational leader of the school, responsible for ensuring a safe and productive learning environment. This role requires a dynamic individual with strong leadership skills who can effectively manage staff, develop curriculum, and engage with the community. The Principal will be instrumental in setting strategic goals, overseeing educational programs, and fostering a culture of excellence within the school. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Principal to oversee a K-12 school with approximately 100 students. Located in Northeastern Montana along Highway 2, Frazer, Montana is on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation only 30 minutes from Fort Peck Lake. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and a comprehensive understanding of Montana Public School processes. This role requires effective communication with the Board of Trustees, students, staff, parents, and community members, ensuring that tasks are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

UNIVERSAL OBLIGATIONS/EXPECTATIONS OF EACH STAFF MEMBER :

It is the expectation of the District that each staff member will: (1) put the safety, health and well-being of students at the forefront of all actions, job responsibilities and decisions, and (2) undertake all duties in alignment with the District's Strategic Plan.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Develop and administer a quality educational program using the following guidelines:

  • School Laws of the State of Montana;
  • Accreditation Standards set forth by the Montana State Board of Education and the Office of Public Instruction;
  • Policies and Procedures of the Frazer School District Board of Trustees.

Serve as instructional leader of the school by

Facilitating and organizing professional development activities:

  • Monitoring alignment of classroom instruction with district curriculum
  • Evaluate performance of teachers and instructional support staff.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Board policies and rules, regulations, and directives.
  • Attend all regular Monthly Board meetings and dialogue sessions.
  • Develop and maintain good working relations with the community, including community organizations and leaders.
  • Confer on a regular basis with administrative colleagues, teachers, students, parents and the Frazer Board of Trustees to address educational and discipline issues.
  • Work with parents and professional staff in development and implementations of programs for students with disabilities or other special needs.
  • Attend sporting events, evening music performances, fine arts events and other family activities involving students and parents.
  • Maintain a visible presence in the building and playground to ensure a physically and psychologically safe school environment.
  • Work with staff to prepare yearly budget requests and monitor spending to conform to budget restrictions.
  • Supervise allocation of equipment, educational material, and supplies in conformance with approved expenditures.
  • Supervise preparation of attendance reports, test results, and other reports as required by the Office of Public Instruction and other agencies.
  • Maintain a positive school culture that supports teaching and learning.
  • Responsible for control and discipline of students.
  • Direct federal programs as assigned by the Superintendent and Board of Trustees.

  • Be properly licensed and endorsed in accordance with state statutes and Board of Public Education rules, or considered appropriately assigned if the principal is enrolled in an internship.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality with student and personnel matters.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and general knowledge of issues and problems in all aspects of the school.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works inside. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The employee frequently works irregular or extended hours while performing the duties of this job. The noise level in this position varies, usually moderate.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently required to sit, walk, and travel from one building to another or other sites. The employee is occasionally required to use hands/fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls reach with hands and arms; twist at neck and waist; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to be able to hear conversations in quite environments. May be required to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds.

MENTAL/MOTOR DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee rarely performs routine work. The employee frequently exercises flexibility (ability to shift from one task to another). The employee frequently works within time constraints and maintains attentiveness intensity. Guidance and reinforcement are infrequently available. The employee is frequently involved in social interactions which require oral and written communications. As a district employee they are exposed to infection at a greater risk than the average person. A superintendent is directly/indirectly responsible for the safety and well-being of students.
