3-D Product Designer (Contract role)

Position Overview:

We are seeking a freelance Product Designer (Industrial / 3D Design) to join our team on an hourly, as-needed basis. This role will focus on designing innovative and functional hairbrushes, hot tools, and hair accessories, bringing new product ideas to life through industrial design principles and advanced 3D modeling.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with the design and product development teams to conceptualize and develop innovative, functional product designs.
• Research and analyze competitive products to identify opportunities for improved functionality, performance, and user experience.
• Generate and iterate on design concepts using 3D modeling software (e.g., SolidWorks, Rhino, Fusion 360, KeyShot, or similar).
• Explore ergonomic, mechanical, and structural solutions to enhance product usability and differentiation.

3D Design & Prototyping

• Create accurate 3D models, CAD files, and detailed technical drawings for prototyping and manufacturing.
• Work with engineering and development teams to ensure designs are feasible for production, meeting cost, performance, and quality requirements.
• Provide photorealistic renderings for presentations and stakeholder review.
• Support prototype reviews, providing design refinements based on testing and feedback.

Trend & Market Awareness

• Stay informed on beauty industry innovations, consumer needs, and material/technology trends.
• Interpret market insights and trend research into functional product design opportunities.
• Contribute to seasonal and category-specific innovation pipelines.

Cross-Functional Responsibilities

• Partner closely with product development, marketing, and sourcing teams to align on design intent and brand identity.
• Prepare clear and detailed design documentation for factory submission, including specifications and component breakdowns.
• Manage design files, CAD data, and digital assets for departmental use.

Required Skills/ Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or related field.
• 1–4 years of product design experience, preferably in beauty, personal care, or consumer goods.
• Proficiency in 3D modeling and rendering software (SolidWorks, Rhino, Fusion 360, KeyShot, etc.).
• Understanding of manufacturing processes (injection molding, assembly, materials selection).
• Strong problem-solving skills with an eye for both functionality and aesthetics.
• Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and deliver high-quality work on deadline.
• Familiarity with beauty industry trends and consumer preferences a plus.
