Job Title: Mandarin- English Translator

Location: Onsite – Hemlock Solar Plant, 1881 North Orr Rd, Hemlock, MI 48626

Interview Format: Teams Meeting (conducted in Mandarin)

Position Summary:

Corning is seeking five highly skilled Communication Specialist to support communication in a dynamic manufacturing environment. This role is essential in bridging language gaps between English-speaking and Mandarin-speaking personnel at the Hemlock Solar Plant. Interpreters will play a key role in training sessions, safety briefings, and technical conversations to ensure accurate and culturally appropriate translations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide real-time verbal interpretation between English and Mandarin speakers on the manufacturing floor.
  • Facilitate communication during training, safety, technical, and operational meetings.
  • Maintain the tone, context, and meaning of original messages while ensuring clarity and cultural accuracy.
  • Assist trainers, engineers, and team members in delivering clear and effective communication.
  • Uphold confidentiality and handle all information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Adjust to various work environments and communication styles to ensure smooth dialogue.
  • Support rotating 12-hour shifts, with flexibility for part-time or modified schedules.

Qualifications:

Education & Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Translation, Linguistics, Chinese Studies, or a related field (preferred).
  • Professional interpretation certification is a plus.

Experience:

  • Prior experience as a professional interpreter, ideally in a manufacturing, technical, or corporate setting.

Desired Skills:

  • Native or near-native fluency in Mandarin and English.
  • Excellent oral communication and listening skills in both languages.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy under time constraints.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing or technical terminology (preferred).
  • Proficient with interpretation tools, headsets, or translation software.
  • Culturally aware and respectful, ensuring effective cross-cultural communication.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, or rotating shifts.
