Geotechnical Lab Manager

Focus:

• Direct daily operations of a geotechnical testing lab, ensuring safe and compliant practices in all activities.
• Supervise lab staff, assign tasks, and coordinate training initiatives for both lab and field technicians.
• Oversee the calibration and maintenance of geotechnical testing equipment and instrumentation.
• Manage documentation workflows and uphold quality standards for FDOT, AASHTO, ASTM, and other agency compliance.
• Serve as point of contact for internal audits and external lab accreditation processes.
• Optimize workflows to ensure timely, accurate testing and clear communication of results to project stakeholders.
• Collaborate with project and department leadership to ensure lab readiness across all phases of work.
• Support quality management and safety documentation including SOP and QMS updates.
• May serve in a Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) capacity as needed.
• Physical ability to lift heavy materials and equipment (70+ lbs) regularly.

Skill Set:

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related field preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in geotechnical or construction materials testing, ideally on large-scale infrastructure or DOT projects.
• Hands-on experience testing soils, concrete, asphalt, and masonry.
• Familiarity with FDOT MAC system and state lab certification processes is highly desirable.
• Proven leadership experience in a lab setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Certifications Preferred:

• ACI and CTQP certifications
• Radiation Safety Certification (a plus)
