Job Description

Clocktower Group is an alternative asset management and advisory firm based in Santa Monica, California, with a presence in London and Shanghai. Our top-down macro framework and relationship-based investing approach inform our strategies and drive the way we do business. In public markets, we seed macro-oriented managers and invest in China-focused equities managers. In private markets, we invest in early stage fintech and climate disrupters. We also provide global macro research and advisory services.

Clocktower Ventures

Clocktower Ventures, the venture investing arm within Clocktower Group, partners with phenomenal entrepreneurs who have the vision and drive to innovate across two domains: financial services and climate change. Across these verticals, our stage-agnostic approach offers investment exposure from the earliest stages of company formation all the way to late-stage growth underwriting. The model empowers investors to source and evaluate actionable opportunities across a wide latitude of sectors and stages.

We are seeking a Finance and Portfolio Operations Analyst to join our Santa Monica office. In this role, you will be charged primarily with systematizing all aspects of the firm’s portfolio and fund management needs, ranging from deal execution to portfolio data collection to investor reporting. We are a team committed to building an elite venture capital organization—and this position is a central part of our team. This is a role with significant day one responsibility and requires an organized, entrepreneurial mind who wants to be challenged and stretched. If you are passionate about technology and take pride in delivering excellence, we want you to join us. Please note, though you will collaborate closely with the investment team, this is not an investment role.

What you’ll do:

Portfolio Management.

o You will own the end-to-end portfolio data management process to help our team better understand the health of our portfolio. You will lead the collection, input, tracking, and quality control of company financials & KPI data. You will implement and execute best practices for storing portfolio company & fund-level data, efficiently updating and reporting data across various workflows and functions of the Firm. In these efforts, you will support the team in deriving meaningful insights into our existing book – both at the company and fund level.

o You will act as a critical point of contact for our portfolio companies by working with our investment team to onboard each new portfolio company and assist companies with strategic and operational needs, creatively implementing technological tools to optimize these workflows.

Fund Operations.

o You will lead the quarterly valuation process, working alongside our investment and our operations team. To be effective, you will compile comprehensive portfolio views, collect essential data and prepare ad-hoc financial models, analyses and presentations on each portfolio company.

o You will manage investment cash flows – budgeting expected capital calls on a quarterly basis and monitoring cash flows relative to deal activity on a weekly basis

o You will oversee the various data aggregation tools, including the third-party platforms for portfolio monitoring & fund cash flows

Reporting Support.

o Miscellaneous support may vary. These responsibilities might include:

o Aggregating portfolio company and fund/firm data in tables, slides, and charts for quarterly webinars

o Assisting with quarterly/annual and ad hoc reporting to limited partners and prospective investors

o Participating in fundraising workstreams such as data room preparation and management, internal/external presentation/document drafting and review, and transactional and operational support

Requirements:

o 1-3 years’ work experience as financial/business data or investment operations analyst at an accounting firm, inside a company, or within a credit/commercial bank

o B.S. in a STEM-related field, such as Engineering, Computer Science, or Data Science or alternatively, a B.S. in business, economics, finance, accounting, or a related area with a demonstrated ability to understand technical systems and companies

o You have meaningful reps of in-depth financial modeling and corporate valuation; you have an ability to analyze trends and company performance beyond a financial statement

o You are relentlessly attentive to detail and display an unquestioned work ethic.

o You can run fast and make things happen — you can be super-productive in a highly independent way.

o You’re a creative, speculative thinker who can envision how markets and industries might evolve.

o You maintain a commitment to honesty and hold yourself accountable to the highest standards.

o This role must be on site in our Santa Monica office.

What you’ll get:

o All the resources you’ll need to learn and grow.

o Independence to run with your ideas.

o Joining an elite team that works with some of the most sophisticated investors and entrepreneurs in the world.

o World-class benefits:

  • Delicious, healthy lunches and snacks
  • Fully paid, top-tier medical coverage
  • Beautiful office space with amazing ocean views

Clocktower Group is an equal opportunity employer and makes employment decisions without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, protected veteran status, disability status, or any other status protected by law.

While the roles at Clocktower are primarily desk-based and do not typically require significant physical demands, employees in these positions should be able to:

o Sit for extended periods.

o Use a computer and other office equipment effectively.

o Occasionally lift and move lightweight office supplies or materials.

Salary Range: $100,000-$125,000. Compensation may vary based on experience, training, and education. This position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.
