About The Rowan Center:

For over 45 years, The Rowan Center has been the leader in providing sexual violence prevention education, counseling, and advocacy across lower Fairfield County, which includes Stamford, Norwalk, Darien, Greenwich, New Canaan, Weston, Westport, and Wilton. As one of nine independent sexual violence agencies in the state, we are long-time members of The Connecticut Alliance to End Sexual Violence (The Alliance) and the only center providing services to lower Fairfield County’s population of 400,000. Our confidential and free services include a 24/7–hotline, crisis counseling, advocacy during medical treatments, investigations, and court proceedings, support groups, and a long-term therapy clinic for HUSKY-insured adults who have experienced any form of trauma.

Position Summary:

The Director of Education and Outreach will report to the Chief Executive Officer and provide strategic leadership, efficient management, and supervision of all educational and outreach programs at The Rowan Center. This role includes overseeing community prevention education, fostering community partnerships, and supporting operational and strategic goals. The Director will ensure the agency meets its mission of supporting survivors of sexual violence and eliminating sexual violence through education and outreach. This role is located in Stamford, CT.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Supervision

  • Provide leadership, expertise, and accountability for all education and outreach programs.
  • Supervise and support education and outreach staff, including performance evaluation, training, and mentoring.
  • Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration to align programming with organizational goals.
  • Develop and evaluate staff job responsibilities, annual goals, and performance in collaboration with senior management.

Community Education and Prevention

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate educational programming for varied audiences, including Pre-K through college students, parents, teachers, and community professionals.
  • Conduct presentations and trainings on topics such as sexual violence prevention, healthy relationships, and trauma-informed care for schools, law enforcement, healthcare providers, and other community groups.
  • Oversee the creation and revision of curricula for in-person and virtual formats to meet community needs.
  • Serve as the primary contact for workshops, school programming, and community training requests.

Outreach and Relationship Management

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive outreach strategy with measurable goals and timelines.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with community organizations, schools, universities, law enforcement, and healthcare providers to strengthen the coordinated response to sexual violence.
  • Represent The Rowan Center at community events, fairs, and professional meetings.

Additional Duties

  • Provide backup coverage for the 24/7 hotline, including in-person accompaniment at hospitals or police stations.
  • Participate in agency staff and board meetings, development events, and professional trainings.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal legislative requirements for programming.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, public health, social work, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Suggested 5+ years of experience, ideally managing education, outreach or prevention programs. Open to less experience with other qualifying attributes for the right candidate.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain community partnerships and lead diverse teams.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and public speaking skills.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Commitment to The Rowan Center’s mission and values.
  • Completion of The Rowan Center’s 40-hour sexual assault crisis counseling certification (or ability to complete upon hire).
  • Access to reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
  • Satisfactory completion of a background check.

We value passion, potential, and purpose. If you care deeply about the mission of The Rowan Center, but don’t meet every qualification listed, we still encourage you to apply. We are committed to building a diverse, high-performing team and welcome candidates of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences.

We’re looking for individuals who are strategic thinkers, quick on their feet, and eager to grow—people who thrive in fast-paced environments, take initiative, and are motivated to make an impact. If you're hardworking, solutions-oriented, and driven to help build something meaningful, you may be exactly who we’re looking for.
