Position Overview:

Data Scientist – Financial Services

Location: Charlotte, NC (Onsite Required)

We are hiring a Data Scientist to support a key engagement with one of our financial services clients. This role will focus on building, testing, and refining models that inform critical business decisions, with an emphasis on performance, transparency, and regulatory alignment. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in applied data science, experience in regulated industries (preferably banking), and comfort operating in a client-facing consulting environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and validate statistical, predictive, and machine learning models to support business and risk-related use cases
  • Analyze large and complex datasets to extract actionable insights, trends, and patterns
  • Translate business challenges into data science solutions, delivering technical output in a business-friendly format
  • Partner with client teams to ensure models align with internal governance frameworks and regulatory expectations
  • Prepare clear documentation and reporting materials for internal stakeholders and audit/regulatory review
  • Support model monitoring strategies and performance assessments over time
  • Communicate results and recommendations effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in data science or machine learning roles, preferably in financial services or other regulated industries
  • Strong programming skills in Python and SQL, with experience developing end-to-end model solutions
  • Familiarity with model risk management practices and regulatory expectations in banking (e.g., SR 11-7, model governance frameworks)
  • Experience building models for use cases such as credit risk, fraud detection, customer segmentation, or operational analytics
  • Solid grasp of supervised/unsupervised learning, feature engineering, model validation, and performance metrics
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams, prioritize effectively, and work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; experience working with cross-functional stakeholders
