Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Chief Strategy Officer – Rocky Mountain Region is responsible for strategic planning and strategic plan portfolio management, leading revenue growth and business development efforts for RMR while playing a key role in business innovation and strategy. Drives profitable sustainable revenue growth, strategy, and business development aligned with AdventHealth and current and future state trends within the industry. Initiates and identifies new portfolio strategies, portfolio prioritization and tracking/dashboarding of these priorities. Translates the system strategy across RMR, leading region-wide planning, coordination, and implementation of strategic plans. Provides strategic direction across the RMR to senior and executive leaders grounded in business analytics, data, and predictive modeling. Provides supervisory oversight to service line leadership and marketing functions in the region. Monitors and evaluates delivery timelines and resource requirements to achieve goals.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :

Growth & Business Development

  • Lead overall RMR growth strategy across the region; develop and lead profitable revenue generation and business development strategies and efforts
  • Identify innovative ways to grow business, service lines and clinical programs development, platforms, and partnerships.
  • Identify high priority strategic opportunities, risks, key capital projects and potential acquisitions and partnerships; Develop new business opportunities for the region consistent with the mission
  • Develop, lead and collaborate to drive the execution of strategies that result in profitable business growth; operationalize growth and physician alignment strategies.
  • Assess market development strategy and industry trends, leading to the generation of innovative ideas to improve current business plan and achieve desired results
  • Ensure the completion of market analysis of possible business opportunities and development of market development plan designed to meet the needs of each target market
  • Continually bring national best practices and innovative business models, both within and outside of health care, and incorporate best practices into strategic planning and new business structures
  • Drive change initiatives necessary to carry out strategies and ensure that operational decision-making aligns with strategic objectives
  • Supervisory responsibility for regional service line and marketing leadership positions

Partnerships

  • Build new partnerships to grow and sustain the organization
  • Collaborate on efforts to identify merger or acquisition targets, partnerships, joint ventures and other strategic partnership opportunities
  • Responsible for the regional deal flow process to ensure potential partners align with the mission and culture of AdventHealth, deal terms drive the desired results, and timeliness in deal execution
  • Develop KPIs for each partnership and a system to monitor them to ensure partnerships deliver on the intended ROI

Planning

  • Lead the execution of the strategic plan/framework for the RMR while maintaining alignment to the RMR imperatives and AH Aspirations.
  • Articulate and operationalize the RMR’s strategic plan; oversee the implementation of the strategic plan in close coordination with other members of the leadership team
  • Participate in the regional capital plan and budget development process for resourcing strategy goals
  • Engage external business and industry experts to learn and influence business strategies, constantly remaining alert and forward-thinking about opportunities and risks in the industry
  • Continually, and proactively assess demographics, macroeconomics and competitive market issues impacting AdventHealth; use data and market intel to analyze market dynamics, trends and competition
  • Ensure that appropriate metrics are in place to measure performance and progress towards strategic goals
  • Facilitate the annual Board/MEC Retreat(s) as well as executive and leadership retreats for the purpose of strategic planning.

  • Strong analytical skills, business acumen, and strategic thinking skills
  • Approaches work as an interconnected system. Ability to understand major objectives and break them down into meaningful action steps. Ability to understand and navigate complex dynamics and political environments to understand motivations and align key stakeholders around strategic priorities.
  • Knowledge of federal and state health care laws and regulations, including federal and state anti-kickback statutes, the Stark Law, and HIPAA
  • Proficient computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office suite.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:

  • Experience in Strategic Planning, particularly within health care / health system provider setting, with strong ability to synthesize analytics and market intelligence to drive strategy, develop complex business plans, and make data-driven recommendations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Master’s Degree in Business, Health Services Administration, Public Health, or related field OR equivalent in healthcare strategy, business development, or management consulting experience
  • Minimum Eight (8) years progressive leadership experience
  • Five (5) years’ healthcare experience

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

  • Experience in Real Estate Development or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in Contract Negotiations (closing and integrating transactions)
