Job Description

About the Company

A rapidly scaling leader in the wellness sector is seeking a Chief Science Officer (CSO) to join its executive leadership team. This organization is building the kind of company that prioritizes precision, performance, and purpose . Its mission is to civilize an adolescent category — not by disrupting for disruption’s sake, but by inducting the industry into a higher standard.

This is not a ceremonial role. It is an execution seat — designed for a scientific operator with institutional maturity, high-velocity discipline, and a track record of delivering excellence in regulated and innovative environments.

What You’ll Do

  • Set and execute the scientific and regulatory roadmap across R&D, clinical validation, and regulatory affairs
  • Build and lead a cross-functional science and compliance team with high technical rigor and cultural alignment
  • Own functional outcomes end-to-end, including IND/GRAS/NDA readiness, claims substantiation, and new product development
  • Serve as scientific and regulatory liaison with the FDA, DEA, FTC, and key international authorities
  • Operationalize excellence through reproducible systems in formulation, testing, documentation, and compliance workflows
  • Represent the organization credibly to academic, regulatory, and institutional stakeholders
  • Set the tone for high-integrity leadership — direct, respectful, data-informed

You’ll Thrive Here If You

  • Lead with urgency, communicate with precision, and build with intent
  • Make high-stakes decisions with imperfect information and stand behind them
  • Welcome accountability and enforce it consistently within your teams
  • Navigate change with composure and lead others through it with clarity
  • Operate without ego and treat culture as a performance system, not a branding exercise

You May Struggle Here If You

  • Require extensive process, top-down direction, or hierarchical authority to stay productive
  • Avoid hard calls on talent or delay direct feedback
  • Equate title with credibility or tenure with effectiveness
  • Over-index on planning at the expense of measurable output

What You Bring

  • 15+ years in scientific leadership, including executive-level responsibility across regulatory science, R&D, or translational medicine
  • History of delivering measurable results in fast-moving or scaling environments
  • Deep expertise in pharmacology, regulatory science, or clinical program leadership
  • Experience owning GRAS/NDI/IND submissions, and product development in regulated wellness, pharma, or biotech
  • Exceptional communication, structured decision-making, and functional execution
  • Cultural alignment with values around ownership, speed, candor, and precision

Minimum Qualifications

  • Executive experience with direct accountability for business outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through complexity, ambiguity, and scale
  • Strong regulatory and scientific credibility, with FDA/DEA engagement history
  • Track record of building systems, teams, or departments from the ground up
  • Comfort navigating high-stakes stakeholder environments, including investors and regulators

Preferred Qualifications

  • Leadership experience in a founder-led or high-growth private company
  • Familiarity with AI integration, automation, or digital infrastructure in science or compliance
  • Board-level communication or cross-functional enterprise influence
  • History of coaching high-performing, values-aligned scientific leaders
