SUMMARY: Under the direction the Director of Safe School Environments, assist in developing and providing professional on-going training with the campus supervisors across the District. Work with the Director of Safe School Environments, School Administrators, and campus supervisors/campus security officers to develop and implement effective school security and emergency management practices and procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Directly supervise 25-35 campus supervisors/CSOs by maintaining consistent accountability, setting clear and concise expectations for job performance, and providing understanding for District policies and practices.
Work with the Manager Director of Safe School Environments to track and Evaluate campus supervisor performance and training.
Assist the Director of Safe School Environments in developing and implementing an on-going professional training and development program for the campus supervisors.
Assist the Director of Safe School Environments in the development, implementation, adhering to, and monitoring of Standard Operating Procedures for the Campus Security Program.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities. Training, evaluating, discipline, and directing.
Encourages a high degree of positive work ethics and reliability
Support the Manager of Campus Security in vetting, interviewing, hiring, and placing campus supervisors at their appropriate locations.
Establish and support weekly security meetings at assigned schools. When appropriate, aid campus supervisors in addressing and resolving site safety/security issues.
Review, kickback, and approve all reports, utilizing the computer aided dispatch (CAD) system, campus supervisors/CSO?s utilize to submit reports during the contracted work year.
Successfully complete quarterly training on firearms, weapons retention, and Pressure Point Control Tactics (PPCT).
Investigate, review, and/or confirm campus supervisor and campus security officer?s time reporting, including but not limited to, verifying electronic fob time card, while comparing reported time in ESS.
Conduct Lockdown drills at all high schools. When requested, assist the Specialist ?Emergency Planning and Training with conducting Lockdown drills at elementary and middle schools.
Work with the schools and campus supervisors to assist with the state mandated emergency drills with the Security and Emergency Management Department.
Assist in various roles as required by the incidents encountered by the department. These roles vary as the incidents and the time frame changes.
Respond to school related emergencies.
The Coordinator will be expected to complete all required training, including but not limited to, Rapid And Immediate Deployment (R.A.I.D) training, Single Officer Response, Emergency Vehicle Driving Qualifications, and Emergency Preparedness courses.
Evaluate and assess security threats to life and property. Report findings and recommend improvements to Director of Safe School Environments and the Executive Director of School Safety. When requested, provide security and protection for board members, students, school and district staff.
Ability to take command, serve a role, or assume responsibility in the event of critical incidents, overseeing and directing Security & Emergency Management Security Patrol Officers, Campus Supervisors, and/or school based staff.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Safe School Environments.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING: Bachelor degree in criminal justice preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered. Experience in supervision may be substituted for years of college on a one for one basis. Have a working knowledge with school security, plus a minimum of one year of course work in the area(s) of criminal justice, sociology, psychology, communications, education, and/or child/youth development. Course work may be replaced by demonstrated experience and training reflective of the same knowledge and abilities. It is preferred to have certifications in First Aid/CPR AED and Juvenile Mental Health First Aid/CPR and Standard Response Protocol.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum 2 years? experience as a Campus Supervisor. Familiarity with District-wide and school based security and its operations. Must be able to demonstrate working knowledge of campus safety and board/district policies. Must show the ability to utilize duty equipment including, but not limited to, a service weapon/firearm, intermediate weapons, ballistic vest, and other duty equipment as assigned. Must show ability to use technology including, but not limited to, Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), computers, cell phones, radios, surveillance, and other electronic devices. Experience in providing a high degree of customer service in an environment requiring effective interpersonal and conflict resolution skills. Other experience will be weighed on a case-by-case basis.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EQUIPMENT: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to develop and maintain interpersonal relationships and the ability to work well with a wide variety of people. A Coordinator should possess excellent problem identification and solving skills. Coordinator should have the ability to effectively handle multiple tasks under stressful situations. The employee must be efficient with computer skills and familiar with Microsoft Office and Google Docs.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid Colorado driver's license with good driving history (must provide driving record) at time of hire. Juvenile Mental Health CPR/First Aid and CPR/First Aid AED certification highly recommended.
SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Carries out supervisory responsibilities at the direction of the Director of Safe School Environments in accordance with the organization?s policies. Responsibilities include interviewing, training, planning, assigning, and directing work, completing evaluations and assisting with discipline, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
SAFETY TO SELF AND OTHERS: Low exposure to cuts and bruises due to typical office environment accidents. Low exposure to self and public due to loss of limb, sight, disfigurement or fatality from auto accident. Low exposure to self, students and public due to bruises, cuts, fractured bones from confrontation/auto accident; burns (heat) from fire and hernia from confrontation. Medium exposure to self from potential threats, criminal activity and responding to significant crisis events.

JUDGMENT AND DECISION MAKING: Work is assigned by the Director of Safe School Environments and decisions are guided by department and Board policies. Decision making requires collaboration with the Director of Safe School Environments, District staff, and law enforcement agencies. Requires detailed judgment, analysis and application of technical and professional knowledge to correctly read, interpret, and apply, as well as assess known information; determine and implement the appropriate course of action; appropriately communicate information; assign and delegate duties; and coordinate the exchange of information between multiple levels within the organization and with external entities.
PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT : The purpose of the psychological evaluation is to determine those candidates who are best suited to handle the stress of working in an environment where carrying a firearm/weapon is mandatory.
DIVERSITY OF DUTIES: Work is assigned by the Director of Safe School Environments and requires sound supervisory skills, including independent judgment and thinking, application of District/School policies, professional experiences, and problem solving skills to assess appropriate course of action. Traits to effectively perform the job duties include intervention training, containment, de-escalation strategies, effective communication, integrity, and notification of appropriate personnel. Must be skilled in a wide range of personal interaction techniques, which include verbal de-escalation and nonviolent physical crisis intervention.
