Your Role in Shaping the Future of Video Streaming

Position Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Location: Austin, TX (Hybrid - 1 day remote per week)

What You’ll Do: As a Java Backend Development Manager, you will play a critical role in shaping the backend architecture of our OTT Video SaaS platform. This position requires a blend of technical expertise and leadership skills, as you will guide and mentor a team of developers, driving innovation and ensuring the delivery of robust, scalable solutions. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to enhance BitKernel’s global reach and provide seamless video experiences for users around the world.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and Collaborate: Lead a team of developers in building and optimizing server-side logic using Kotlin and Java.

Architectural Design: Design and implement scalable, microservices architectures.

Integration: Integrate user-facing elements with backend services, working closely with front-end developers.

Code Optimization: Develop reusable code libraries and optimize applications for performance and scalability.

Data Management: Implement and maintain data storage solutions, ensuring data integrity and availability.

Code Reviews: Conduct thorough code reviews to uphold quality standards and foster a cohesive development environment.

Mentorship: Mentor and coach junior engineers, promoting a learning-focused team culture.

Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot and debug complex issues to enhance performance and reliability.

Innovation: Stay at the forefront of industry trends, bringing innovative ideas to our platform.

Your Skills and Experience

Essential:

• Experience: 10+ years of backend development experience with expertise in designing and developing SaaS and OTT platforms.
• Leadership: Proven experience leading development projects in agile environments, including managing small teams.

Technical Expertise:

• Proficiency in Java and Kotlin.
• Strong foundation in cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud) and microservices architecture.
• Deep understanding of relational databases (e.g., MySQL) and in-memory databases (e.g., Redis, Ignite).
• Experience with Spring Cloud, Kubernetes, and Docker.
• Knowledge of encryption protocols (SHA, AES, RSA) and best practices in data security.
• Communication: Strong communication skills to work cross-functionally, optimizing the SaaS user experience.
• Empathy and Leadership: Ability to lead a team with empathy, fostering collaboration and technical growth.

Preferred Skills:

• Video Streaming: Experience with live or VOD video streaming platforms.
• Multimedia: Familiarity with multimedia codecs (AVC, HEVC, VP9) and DRM systems (PlayReady, Widevine).
• Technology: Knowledge of Kotlin, C++, and blockchain/Web3 technologies.
