Job Description

We are seeking a warm, collaborative, and proactive Assistant Teacher to join our Reggio Emilia-inspired infant/toddler program for this school year. This is a hands-on, supportive role ideal for someone passionate about early childhood education and eager to grow within a reflective, team-oriented environment.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Support Daily Communication with Families: Help take photos and videos of children at work; assist with uploading content to our parent app; contribute to daily blogs or reflections highlighting classroom moments.
  • Assist with Documentation: Work alongside the lead teacher to gather observations, support child portfolios, and contribute to the class project documentation. Help capture meaningful interactions and learning through photos and brief written notes.
  • Collaborate on Lesson Planning: Support the lead teacher in preparing engaging, developmentally appropriate materials and activities inspired by the children’s interests. Help integrate weekly specialists (e.g., music, movement, language) into classroom experiences.
  • Provide Nurturing Care: Help with feeding, diapering, dressing, and supporting the daily routines of infants with attentiveness and care.
  • Promote a Calm, Responsive Environment: Use gentle redirection and modeling to guide behavior. Support circle time, small group explorations, and transitions throughout the day.
  • Engage in Professional Learning: Attend staff development sessions and Reggio-inspired training opportunities. Participate in team meetings and reflective conversations about classroom practices and child development.
  • Team Collaboration: Communicate regularly with the lead teacher and administrative team. Contribute ideas and reflections to help deepen classroom work and relationships.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field (or currently pursuing).
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of classroom experience with infants (3 months to 1 year).
  • Open and enthusiastic about learning the Reggio Emilia approach.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • New York State Certification is a plus but not required.
